Netherlands: Kinderdijk

There are windmills everywhere, tucked away in little towns (in Germany too). Not one in our village, but there is one 5k away in the next village.

The most windmills you’ll see in one place is at Kinderdijk. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site just south of Rotterdam, NL. There are 19 windmills dating to 1740. And it’s FREE. You do pay to park—I forget how much, but it seemed a little high. You could probably park somewhere along the road and walk over. There are companies that offer tours by horse carriages, canal boats or Cessnas.

We were there beginning of April last year. It was friggin’ cold, cloudy and a storm was rolling in. I’m sure there are some interesting facts, but I’ve misplaced the brochure. And I just saw it the other day.
